The history of the puzzle could be mapped out way back 1760, when an engraver named John Spilsbury designed his initial map puzzle to teach geography among British children. His effort has been compensated and jigsaw became one of the most popular educational tools for school aged children.

Jigsaw puzzles have been in the market for centuries now. In fact, it is still taking the market by storm. The low cost of production and the never ending demand for this puzzle make manufacturers produce these puzzles in all sizes, thus perpetuating its kind.
